what causes uranus blue color

Uranus, an ice giant planets has atmosphere that is made up of hydrogen, helium and methane. With regard to both planets the colour comes from methane gas which absorbs certain kinds of light and its in the upper atmosohere where the colour appears. These two pictures of Uranus - one in true color (left) and the other in false color - were compiled from images returned Jan. 17, 1986, by the narrow-angle camera of Voyager 2. The spacecraft was 9.1 million kilometers (5.7 million miles) from the planet, several days from closest approach. If another color were radiated, say red for instance, the Earth would look red from outer space, like Mars.

B. They are both covered with liquid water oceans.

A. Even though one may not be able to view the rings or any of the many moons of these two planets, the fact that we are able to view them at all should not be considered a disappointment.

This methane gas gives Uranus a greenish blue color Neptune also has some methane gas in its mainly hydrogen and helium atmosphere, giving it a bluish color.

The picture at left has been processed to show U Uranus is so featureless that even the Hubble telescope had to use upper clouds to estimate rotation time of the planet. The water radiates the blue in the spectrum, giving it its blue color.

The variety of color in planets depends on a wide range of factors. Firstly, Uranus looks blue-green and Neptune appears deep blue.

D. The presence of atmospheric nitrogen is responsible for the bluish color of Uranus and Neptune. The color of Neptune is a bright azure blue. During its flyby in 1989, NASA’s Voyager 2 revealed the bright blue color, different from the pale blue color of Uranus. As with the Earth's atmosphere, most of the colors of the light spectrum are absorbed by the water. Images of Uranus reveal for the first time a dark spot inthe planet's northern hemisphere. Uranus is a gas planet which has a lot of methane gas mixed in with its mainly hydrogen and helium atmosphere.

The colors blue and blue-green are caused by methane in their atmospheres. C. The presence of atmospheric methane gas is responsible for the bluish color of Uranus and Neptune. None of these are correct. If they have an atmosphere, the color we see may be related to weather effects in their atmosphere, such as the clouds on Venus, or to the gases themselves, on the gas giant planets of Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune, and Saturn.
